Therapist Sandy Richter Joins Minot Clinic

Sandy Richter is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who provides therapy for children and adolescents, ages 6-17, and adults 18 and older, who are experiencing life stressors, stage of life changes, or who have complex behavioral health issues. Richter is a gender-inclusive practitioner stating, “I work hard to be an affirming therapist and to be inclusive of individuals with developmental or gender identity issues, creating a safe and accepting environment for individuals to be their authentic selves.” Richter will provide in-person appointments at the Minot location and is also available to provide online therapy.

In her practice, Richter uses compassion therapy and affirmative practice techniques, psychoeducation, trauma-informed care for adults, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children and adolescents, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques for all ages.  

Richter has 13 years of experience in Social and Human Services, including a background in children and family services, Child Welfare Supervision, domestic and sexual violence victimization, Domestic violence offender psychoeducational treatment programming, and served four years on the ND Batters’ Treatment Forum. She came to Dakota Family Services from North Central Human Service, where she spent 5 years working with clients of all ages with life stressors, mental health diagnoses, substance use disorders, and a variety of clinical therapy needs. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, and a Master Specialty Practice certification in Leadership in Executive and Administrative Development in Social Work. 

Aside from being a therapist, Richter is a wife, mother, music lover, gardener, avid reader, enjoys cooking and baking, and enjoys traveling when possible.
