Definition

Strength-based therapy is a psychotherapy approach that helps people build on their social, academic, vocational, and interpersonal strengths. Rather than focusing on a client's illness or problems, a strength-based therapist helps them identify personal strengths they can use to get through difficult times and teaches them how to view themselves in a positive manner. Techniques used in strength-based therapy include role playing, affirmations, mindfulness, and mentoring.
